An Interview with Alison Jay

The Letterpress Project has asked authors and illustrators to think about what has inspired them as artists, what their favourite books are and how they relate to their audience - we've also asked them if they themselves are book collectors.

We are delighted to present an exclusive interview with the wonderful children's book illustrator, Alison Jay. Alison grew up in Derbyshire and studied graphic design in London. After graduating she worked in animation for a short while but gradually started to working as an illustrator and has produced award winning illustrations for a number of children's books. Her distinctive style is achieved by using a quick drying oil paint on paper and sometimes adding a crackle glaze varnish to give the work an aged appearance.
